Standard Liege is taking measures to facilitate the safe return home of supporters after matches. It's a fact that the third half of a football match often is part of the sports culture. After a win or loss, it's common to share a drink between teammates or supporters. But this can become risky when one has to drive afterwards. The club has therefore installed two breathalyzers in the business area of the stadium. A video message about responsible driving is also shown on the big screens before and during matches. Pierre François, the general manager of Standard Liege, emphasizes that the club's responsibility doesn't stop at the field. The players have also been sensitized during a training session about responsible driving. The AWSR conducted a survey and it appears that one in four Walloons who consume alcohol during a sports event admit that they sometimes drive after probably exceeding the legal limit. The club wants to sensitize its supporters and players to the risks of driving under the influence. The goal is that all supporters return home safely every season. The collaboration between Standard Liege and AWSR is part of a larger initiative to promote road safety in Wallonia. Other sports clubs and organizations are also participating in this effort. The AWSR has installed about twenty breathalyzers in various sports clubs and complexes. The agency also organizes awareness sessions for young players between the ages of 16 and 19. By working together, Standard Liege and AWSR hope to reduce the number of accidents caused by driving under the influence and promote a culture of responsible driving among supporters and players.
